Insurance and Injury Policy
Urban Rec doesn’t provide any personal injury, or personal accident insurance, this policy was created for our members to help highlight steps you can stake to protect yourself and investigate the option for additional personal insurance cover.
AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS AND MEDICARE
Australia has one of the best public health systems in the world. As an Australian resident through Medicare we are entitled to free medical treatment. If you do have a serious accident, generally the cost is covered. You can read more about this here. If you do have private health, look into your policy, and see if they cover for ambulance, and rehabilitation services like physio. They are the things you will most likely need if you are playing sport. You can find out more here.
BLANKET INSURANCE POLICIES FOR PERSONAL INJURY AND THEIR VALUE
Some local clubs and associations offer a blanket insurance policy for all their players. Urban Rec does not believe there is true value in offering insurance policies like these. In our experience they do not deliver the optimum output for the injured party.
OUR COMMITMENT TO MAKING SPORTS ACCESIBLE AND COST EFFECTIVE
We believe sport should be accessible for everyone. We are committed to keeping our costs cheaper than a class at the gym, or a yoga class. Additional annual insurance policies can mean your registration fee’s increase, and we don’t want to pass that cost on.
COVER FOR NON RESIDENTS
If you don’t have a Medicare card or private health insurance, we suggest you take out a personal accident/injury policy such as this. If you have a previous injury, or you are worried in particular about your income being affected by an injury, we strongly suggest you look into getting yourself covered with a personal insurance policy of some kind. Here are some example of insurance providers. (AAMI, GIO, Suncorp).
If you’re visiting Australia from certain countries, you may be entitled to some subsidized health services under our Reciprocal Health Care Agreements. You can learn more about that here.
DO WHAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU
Urban Rec works very hard to make sure you are safe, and free from any hazards when you play with us. But, accidents do happen. So make sure you know what you are covered for, and stay informed. If you feel unsafe at any time, leave the field, leave the venue and take responsibility for your own safety and welfare. Our staff and your team mates should not influence you to continue to play if you do not feel confident doing so.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU BECOME INJURED?
- If you are injured at an Urban Rec league or event, you should make yourself known to the closest staff member. You may be required to supply your name and we may take details about the injury and incident for your protection.
- If needed, our staff can supply simple first aid equipment and offer to call an ambulance.
- Our staff will be in contact with you after a few days to discuss your personal situation and ensure your welfare.
