I HAVE NEVER PLAYED THIS SPORT; WILL I STILL BE OK TO REGISTER AND PLAY?

Most of our leagues are recreational level, meaning beginners are welcome, as well as people that haven’t played in a long time. On the first week of the season, we assume no one knows the rules yet. Our Event Hosts will teach you everything you need to know, and even help coach you throughout the season.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON THE FIELD/COURT AND HOW MANY DO YOU SUGGEST WE PUT ON OUR ROSTER?

This sport requires 5 or 7 people on the field, maximum of 3 males. Ultimately you decide how many players are on your roster, but we would recommend about 8-10 to account for subs, and weeks when people can’t make it.

I AM HOPING TO REGISTER AS A TEAM, BUT I AM JUST GETTING IT ALL ORGANISED, WILL I MISS OUT?

Some leagues will sell out quickly, so you will need to be prepared ahead of time. For some leagues we do offer team deposits.

I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, I WANT TO REGISTER ON MY OWN, IS THAT POSSIBLE?

Yes, we offer individual registration as well. Click here to see the FAQ’s and more info about signing up to an individually formed team.

I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, I WANT TO REGISTER WITH A FRIEND(S), IS THAT POSSIBLE?

Yes, with our individual registration, you and your friends can join special teams that we open online for individual players to join. You can find out more here.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING, OR WEAR WHEN PLAYING THIS SPORT?

You can wear normal activewear and runners. Urban Rec will supply your team with a set of the bibs to use for the season. This bib set will need to be handed in at the end of the season. We will also supply balls etc.

HOW LONG DO THE GAMES LAST FOR?

In Netball, we play x4 10min quarters. If you or your team show up late those times might be shortened so lace up and be ready! You can view the sport rules for more detailed information on subbing players, and half time breaks etc.

DO WE NEED TO REMOVE JEWELLERY AND CLIP NAILS?

We have a sensible approach to this. We suggest taking any dangling jewellery off, but we do not enforce it, or check the length of your nails before a game. We are not that kind of comp. Use your common sense when playing and choosing what to wear.

DO THE TEAMS TRAIN OR PRACTICE?

Generally, no. Because it’s a recreational league, most teams show up on the night of play and maybe warm up together. If you and your team want to practice that’s completely a team decision, and not something we facilitate.

DO PLAYERS HAVE SET POSTITIONS IN THE GAME?

Generally, no. This is of course a team decision, but mostly players change and alternate their positions. It makes it more fun within a recreational league to mix things up. We do not recruit or organise teams according to their preferred positions. You can organise that among yourselves.

Goal Shooter, and Goal Attack can take a hot within the goal circle for 1 point, and outside of the goal circle for 3 points. The Centre player may take a shot from outside the goal circle (3 pointer). No defending players can shoot.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A POWER ROUND?

Your team scores double in a power round. Yes, if one of your team mates scores a 3 pointer in a power round, it’s 6 points!

DO YOU HAVE GENDER SPECIFIC RULES?

Yes. Two male players cannot play together in both attacking and defending positions. Meaning two male player cannot play in GS and GA, or GK and GD. Also, jump shots are not allowed.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU RECOMMEND ON A TEAM?

Beacuse this league is 5 aside, we recommend having about 5-9 people on the team. Depending on how many of your players are consistent with turning up each week.

I HAVE PLAYED NETBALL MY WHOLE LIFE, WILL I ENJOY THIS SPORT?

You should! But remember a game of Fast5 Netball is a lot faster, and with less stoppage. You will less likely get called on things like stepping, or holding, or contact for every single pass. Some things will be let go in the name of the game. On top of that, playing beginners means some people are learning, so we don’t make every call against a beginner player. We allow them some room so they can still play and have a good time.
