I HAVE NEVER PLAYED BASKETBALL, WILL I STILL BE OK TO REGISTER AND PLAY BASKETBALL?
Our Basketball leagues are recreational, meaning beginners are welcome, as well as people that haven’t played in a long time. On the first week of the season, we assume no one knows the rules of Basketball yet. Our Event Hosts will teach you everything you need to know, and even help coach you throughout the season.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON THE COURT AND HOW MANY DO YOU SUGGEST WE PUT ON OUR ROSTER FOR BASKETBALL?
This sport requires 5 people on the court, minimum 2 females and 2 males. Ultimately you decide how many players are on your roster, but we would recommend about 8 to account for subs, and weeks when people can’t make it.
I AM HOPING TO REGISTER AS A TEAM, BUT I AM JUST GETTING IT ALL ORGANISED, WILL I MISS OUT?
Most of our leagues allow you to pay a $150 deposit to lock in your team space. The final amount is due before the league starts. Some leagues sell out quickly, so pay the deposit ASAP to avoid disappointment.
I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, I WANT TO REGISTER ON MY OWN, IS THAT POSSIBLE?

I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, I WANT TO REGISTER WITH A FRIEND(S), IS THAT POSSIBLE?
Yes, register as an individual and you and your friends can join together and meet other people. You can find out more here.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING, OR WEAR WHEN PLAYING BASKETBALL?
On the first night, teams will be asked to wear a black or white t-shirt. Teams can them opt to choose a team colour. Individual teams are given pre-allocated team colours. You can wear normal activewear.
You can wear normal runners or Basketball specific shoes. Urban Rec will supply everything else you need.
HOW LONG DO THE GAMES LAST FOR?
In Basketball we play x2 20min halves. If you or your team show up late those times might be shortened so lace up and be ready! You can view the sport rules for more detailed information on subbing players, and half time breaks etc.
WHY DO YOU MAKE EXCEPTIONS FOR GIRLS BEING BLOCKED ETC?
Generally, men can be taller, and if a tall man blocks a shot, it can make it impossible for a girl to score. This just means there is better participation from girls, and a more fair chance they will have an opportunity to score.
